When I asked what sort of music would be best for Granblue Fantasy, they suggested something with a Celtic flair. That was great since it comes so naturally to me. For the first time in a while, I was able to pour myself into the music in a really easy, straightforward way.

A lot of the melodies in the towns and other places are peaceful. I tried to make songs like the ones I heard as a kid, ones that comforted me or put me at ease. It's something I think about. Composing for yourself can be unfulfilling since you can't see how the music connects with other things. What's really comforting is when you're working with other people—dozens of other people—and your music is just as enjoyable.

Harmony is important, too. Having the musical components balanced and proportional goes a long way. It's a sort of balance created with musical intervals and not just words or writing. That's one thing that's great about music—how it helps create a balanced world that's equal parts beautiful and fun.
